DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- Trading stocks that trigger major breakouts can lead to massive profits. Once a stock trends to a new high or takes out a prior overhead resistance point, then it's free to find new buyers and momentum players who can ultimately push the stock significantly higher.
>>5 Toxic Stocks to Sell Now
One example of a recent successful breakout trade is medical application and equipment player Arrhythmia Research Technology (HRT), which I featured in May 9's "5 Stocks Ready for Breakouts" at around $5.20 share. I mentioned in that piece that shares of Arrhythmia Research Technology were gapping up sharply higher back above its 50-day moving average with strong upside volume. That spike was quickly pushing shares of HRT within range of triggering a big breakout trade above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $5.30 to $5.48 a share.
Guess what happened? Shares of HRT didn't wait long to trigger that breakout, since the stock ripped higher above those key resistance levels on May 13 with above-average volume. Shares of HRT tag an intraday high on last Friday of $6.46 a share, which represents a sharp gain of 25% from my original article. Shares of HRT are starting to enter overbought territory, since its relative strength index reading is now 80. That said, the stock looks likely to re-test or possibly take out its 52-week high of $6.98 a share in the very near future.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Sean Williams]
First and foremost, while recessions don't necessitate that P&G lower its pricing on its consumer goods, since we know demand will stay relatively the same, that doesn't stop cash-strapped consumers who are taking home less per paycheck from trading down to non-name-brand products to save money. This was actually the culprit for weaker earnings in recent quarters for both P&G and Church & Dwight (NYSE: CHD ) , which were basically forced into a pricing war in the detergent aisle to attract consumers at the detriment of their gross margin.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By George Budwell]
Acadia Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACAD ) is picking up steam heading into the New Year by closing up over 8% last week. Acadia shares have been on a wild ride, shooting up 457% year to date. Nonetheless, gravity has begun to take its toll on Acadia this quarter, with shares heading lower by more than 6%. Last week's jump helped to stave off the recent slump, but it illustrates the current volatility in Acadia right now.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Keith Speights]
If we were to draw two columns -- one for winners from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or PPACA, and another for losers -- the word "hospitals" would probably be listed near the top in the winner's column. Large hospital chains Health Management Association (NYSE: HMA ) and Tenet Healthcare (NYSE: THC ) , have seen their stocks more than double over the past year, while Community Health Systems (NYSE: CYH ) is up around 75%.
- [By Keith Speights]
Overall, publicly traded hospitals have fared well under Obamacare so far. Shares of large hospital chain Community Health Systemshave nearly doubled in the past year. The same holds true for Tenet Healthcare. Health Management Associates (NYSE: HMA ) stock is up nearly 50% during the period.HCA Holdingshasn't performed as well as the others, but the stock is still up around 40% in the last 12 months.

HMA is looking for a new CEO. On Tuesday, hospital operator Health Management Associates (NYSE: HMA ) announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Gary D. Newsome intends to retire from the company on July 31, in order to do missionary work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as president of the church's Uruguay-Montevideo Mission in South America.
- [By Brian Pacampara]
What: Shares of Health Management Associates (NYSE: HMA ) plunged 15% today after the hospital operator cut its outlook for 2013.
So what: Health Management shares have soared over the past year on excitment over the U.S. health care overhaul, but downbeat full-year guidance is forcing Mr. Market to sober up a bit. Management blamed the bleak view on a difficult operating for in-patient services, triggering concerns in other hospital stocks like Tenet Healthcare (NYSE: THC ) and Community Health Systems (NYSE: CYH ) -- both down about 4% today -- as well.

US Energy (USEG), an independent energy company, focuses on the acquisition and development of oil and gas producing properties in the continental U.S. This stock closed up 6.9% to $3.53 in Thursday's trading session.
Thursday's Range: $3.29-$3.53
52-Week Range: $1.45-$4.06
Thursday's Volume: 116,000
Three-Month Average Volume: 219,710From a technical perspective, USEG bounced sharply higher here right off some near-term support at $3.27 and back above its 50-day moving average of $3.45 with lighter-than-average volume. This stock recently formed a triple bottom chart pattern at $3.32, $3.21 and $3.27. Since finding buying interest at those levels, shares of USEG are now spiking higher and moving within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if USEG manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $3.65 to $3.80 with high volume.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in USEG as long as it's trending above some key near-term support levels at $3.27 or at $3.21 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 219,710 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then USEG will set up to re-test or possibly take out its 52-week high at $4.06. Any high-volume move above that level will then give USEG a chance to tag its next major overhead resistance levels at $4.60 to $5.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Robert Rapier]
In 2011, Khosla took public Amyris (Nasdaq: AMRS), Gevo (Nasdaq: GEVO), and KiOR (Nasdaq: KIOR). Each of these stocks started out trading up from the IPO price, with Amyris gaining more than 90 percent at one point. But the challenges of producing fuels from biomass began to mount, and investors realized that this business is capital-intensive. Enthusiasm for these companies dissipated as they fell short of production expectations. Since their respective IPOs Amyris, Gevo, and KiOR are down 70 percent, 92 percent, and 88 percent.

Pacific Ethanol, which traded near $300 per share in 2006, now trades for 27 cents. Amyris (NASDAQ: AMRS ) , an advanced biofuels company, traded near $34 a share as recently as last year, but now trades at $2.65. The battery maker A123 was forced to file for bankruptcy protection last year, three years after going public. KiOR (Nasdaq: KIOR) is one of three advanced biofuel companies that venture capitalist Vinod Khosla took public in 2011. The other two were Amyris (Nasdaq: AMRS) and Gevo (Nasdaq: GEVO). Each of these companies has seen its share price drop sharply since the IPO. While KiOR is one of the few companies to have produced advanced biofuel for sale, the volumes have consistently come in below company guidance, and I expect production costs to remain above the sales price for the foreseeable future.

This stock closed up 5.5% to $10.70 in Monday's trading session.
Monday's Volume: 1.27 million
Three-Month Average Volume: 601,773
Volume % Change: 108%From a technical perspective, KEYW ripped higher here right off its recent low of $9.98 with above-average volume. This stock has been downtrending badly for the last two months and change, with shares sliding lower from its high of $23.09 to its recent 52-week low of $9.98. During that downtrend, shares of KEYW have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of KEYW are now starting to rebound off its 52-week low of $9.98 with strong upside volume flows. This move could be signaling a trend change is in the cards for KEYW in the short-term.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in KEYW as long as it's trending above Monday's low of $10.31 or above its 52-week low of $9.98 and then once it sustains a move or close above Monday's high of $11.15 to some more near-term overhead resistance at $11.50 with volume that hits near or above 601,773 shares.
