Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Moreover, it's not as if Dow stocks haven't delivered some solid dividend increases lately. Just earlier this week, Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG  ) declared a payout 7% higher than what it paid in the previous quarter, marking its 57th straight annual dividend increase. Back in February, Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO  ) came through with an even more aggressive increase of 10% in its quarterly payout, while 3M (NYSE: MMM  ) hiked its dividend by 8%. Both companies also have half-century streaks of increasing payouts annually.

  • [By WALLSTCHEATSHEET]

Given its strong history of successful research and development, as well as its substantial economies of scale in over 200 countries, 3Ms competitive advantage should remain in tact over the long term. The company reported strong second quarter earnings, underscored by a continued ability to generate significant free cash flow. Moreover, the company is actively returning its cash balance to investors, in the form of share repurchases and dividend increases. Its investment in emerging markets is paying off, as healthcare and infrastructure spending in Latin America and Asia continue to grow. While the company is expensive relative to its historical price to earnings multiples, it is not likely to grow cheaper in the near-term, given its strong second quarter. Still, 3Ms steady earnings and dividend growth make it a long-term buy. 3M is an OUTPERFORM.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

By contrast, you can find many lucrative opportunities in dividend stocks. But rather than focusing on the highest yield you can find -- which often backfires when those companies slash their payouts -- look instead at stocks that have consistently grown their dividends over time. Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG  ) just raised its dividend by 7%, marking the 57th consecutive year that the ! company h! as made an increase to its payout rate. Office-products conglomerate 3M (NYSE: MMM  ) has almost as impressive a streak of 55 years of annual dividend increases, with its own 8% raise back in February. Sticking with proven winners like these stocks is a great way to appease your fears of investing near all-time stock market highs.

  • [By Charley Blaine]

Dow component 3M Corp. (NYSE: MMM) is confident enough about its future that it announced late Tuesday a new $12 billion stock buyback plan.

This buyback is open-ended, so it has no expiration date, nor any formal guidance on how it will be enacted. It is just not clear how long it would take to buy in $12 billion in stock. The history shows that 3M spent $5.2 billion on buybacks in 2013, up from $2.2 billion in 2012. At the same pace as before, it could take as little as two years or as many as six years.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Onconova Therapeutics (ONTX), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, focuses on discovering and developing small molecule drug candidates to treat cancer. This stock closed up 2.5% to $5.15 in Thursday's trading session.

    Thursday's Range: $4.97-$5.19

    52-Week Range: $4.10-$31.13

    Thursday's Volume: 132,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 216,102

From a technical perspective, ONTX trended modestly higher here with lighter-than-average volume. This stock has been uptrending over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $4.10 to its recent high of $5.52. During that uptrend, shares of ONTX have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of ONTX within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if ONTX manages to take out Thursday's intraday high of $5.19 to some more key overhead resistance at $5.52 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ONTX as long as it's trending above some near-term support levels at $4.80 or at $4.50 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 216,102 shares. If that breakout gets underway soon, then ONTX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $5.83 to $6.27. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give ONTX a chance to tag $7.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One under-$10 clinical-state biopharmaceutical player that's starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Onconova Therapeutics (ONTX), wh! ich focus! es on discovering and developing small molecule drug candidates to treat cancer. This stock has been destroyed by the short-sellers so far in 2014, with shares off sharply by 56%.

If you glance at the chart for Onconova Therapeutics, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways and consolidating right below its 50-day moving average for the last few weeks. This consolidation pattern is occurring right after shares of ONTX recently spiked sharply higher from its low of $4.10 to its high of $5.52 a share. Shares of ONTX are now trending within range of breaking out of that consolidation pattern and potentially heading higher.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ONTX if it manages to break out above its 50-day moving average of $5.09 a share and then once it takes out some more key overhead resistance levels at $5.24 to $5.52 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 203,756 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ONTX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $6.27 to $7 a share.

Traders can look to buy ONTX off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $4.75 to right around $4.50 a share. One can also buy ONTX off strength once it starts to take out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Top Blue Chip Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Top Blue Chip Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Philip Morris International Inc(PM)

Philip Morris International Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products in markets outside of the United States. Its international product brand line comprises Marlboro, Merit, Parliament, Virginia Slims, L&M, Chesterfield, Bond Street, Lark, Muratti, Next, Philip Morris, and Red & White. The company also offers its products under the A Mild, Dji Sam Soe, and A Hijau in Indonesia; Diana in Italy; Optima and Apollo-Soyuz in the Russian Federation; Morven Gold in Pakistan; Boston in Colombia; Belmont, Canadian Classics, and Number 7 in Canada; Best and Classic in Serbia; f6 in Germany; Delicados in Mexico; Assos in Greece; and Petra in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It operates primarily in the European Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Canada, and Latin America. The company is based in New York, New York.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Stocks with low turnover include Philip Morris International (PM), Schlumberger (SLB), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), General Electric (GE) and Automatic Data Processing (ADP).

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

As the second-largest tobacco company in the world, $137 billion cigarette company Philip Morris International (PM) has the whole "sin stock" thing down pat. PM owns nearly a third of the ex-China market for cigarettes, with some of the most popular global brands under its corporate umbrella. At the top of the pack is the firm's flagship Marlboro label, which accounts for more than a third of volume. Other brands include L&M, Philip Morris, and Parliament.

But don't mistake PM for the company manufacturing Marlboro cigarettes here in the U.S. -- this firm, which spun out from Altria (MO) in 2008, is 100% ex-U.! S. That's actually spectacular positioning, because it means that PM is the part of legacy Altria's tobacco business that's actually still growing. At the same time that cigarette sales here in the U.S. die a slow death, PM's emerging market business is seeing quick growth rates. The combination of a sticky product (consumers don't tend to switch cigarette brands often), and premium positioning with Marlboro means that PM earns thick net profit margins (28% last year) for its trouble.

The strong dollar has been a thorn in PM's side in the last few years -- since the firm earns revenues in local currencies and then reports in dollars, any upside in the greenback presents currency risk. Even so, growth in the firm's core emerging markets has outpaced the dollar's climb in this environment. Another mitigating factor is PM's huge 4.5% dividend yield -- with low interest rates likely to persist for some time, that yield should look increasingly attractive as time wears on.

Similarly, in 2008, Altria spun off its Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM  ) unit. In that case, Philip Morris represented the larger portion of the business, making up almost 70% of the overall value of the pre-merger company. Again, the dividends that Altria paid after the merger were in line with the domestic segment's previous share of payouts.

…large stocks can outperform in 'risk on,' rising markets, as well as in bifurcated markets like this year. A period of large cap outperformance is not necessarily a bear market phenomenon. The large cap rally during the dot-com boom is a classic example, as large technology companies led the market. In the '80s, large multinational growth companies such as Coca-Cola (KO), Pfizer (PFE), and Philip Morris (PM) led the charge. It is also important to note that during these periods! both lar! ge and small stocks delivered positive returns.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By ICRAOnline]

Revenue for the last quarter stood at $73! .4 million, up 27.9% from the year-ago quarter. This was primarily driven by the growth in memory technology licensing, coupled with impressive performance of its security technology licensing business. During the quarter, Rambus also signed new licensing agreements with tech giant Samsung Electronics, Micron Technology (MU), STMicroelectronics (STM), LSI Semiconductor (LSI) and SK Hynix. However, the companys LED lighting business failed to make any significant contribution.

  • [By Rich Smith]

It might not be obvious to the casual observer, but right now, today, LSI (NASDAQ: LSI  ) stock offers one of the best values available in the semiconductor industry. Why?

  • [By Lisa Levin]

LSI (NASDAQ: LSI) shares gained 0.36% to reach a new 52-week high of $11.13. LSI's PEG ratio is 0.87.

Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL) shares touched a new 52-week high of $63.43 after the company posted a profit in the first quarter.

  • [By Patricio Kehoe]

Finally, I always like to see one of the most important financial ratios applying to stockholders, the best measure of performance for a firm's management: the return on equity. With a ROE of -7.19% is below the industry mean of 5.06%. Other more attractive option in terms of this ratio is LSI Corporation (LSI) with a ROE of 8.68%.

Top 5 Integrated Utility Stocks To Buy Right Now: Implant Sciences Corp (IMSC.PK)

Implant Sciences Corporation (Implant Sciences), incorporated in August 31,1984, develops, manufactures and sells sensors and systems for the security, safety and defense (SS&D) industries. Its technologies are used worldwide in security and inspection applications. Implant Sciences has developed technologies used in explosives trace detection (ETD), and and narcotics trace detection (NTD) applications and market and sell handheld ETD and benchtop ETD and NTD systems that use its technologies. The systems are used by private companies and Government agencies to screen baggage, cargo, vehicles, other objects and people for the detection of trace amounts of explosives. Implant Sciences have developed explosives detection systems designed for use in aviation and transportation security, high threat facilities and infrastructure, military installations, customs and border protection, and mail and cargo screening. The systems use the Quantum Sniffer technologies, including photon-based, non-radioactive ion source in combination with ion mobility spectrometry, a detection tool sensitive to the speeds with which ions of various substances move through the air to electronically detect minute quantities of explosives vapor and particles.

Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 Portable Explosives Detector

The Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 Portable Explosives Detector employs a vortex collector for the simultaneous detection of explosives particulates and vapors with or without physical contact and in real-time. The QS-HS150 can detect vapors and nanogram quantities of explosives particulates for explosives substances considered to be threats. The substances include military and commercial explosives, improvised and homemade explosives, and propellants and taggants.

The QS-H150 has automatic and continuous self-calibration. It monitors its environment, senses changes that would affect its accuracy, and re-calibrates accordingly. The system requires no user intervention and no calibration cons! umables. The detection process begins with the collection of a sample with its vortex collector. After collection, the sample is ionized photonically and analyzed using ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) technology. The presence of a threat substance is indicated by a visible and audible alarms. The threat substance is then identified and displayed on the integrated liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. When detecting a threat substance, the QS-H150 rapidly alarms. This real-time detection limits equipment contamination and allows for fast clear-down.

Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 Benchtop Explosives and Narcotics Detector

QS-B220 Benchtop Explosives and Narcotics Detector uses dual IMS with non-radioactive ionization for the detection and identification of a range of military, commercial, and improvised explosives as well as narcotics. The QS-B220 uses a sample trap which is wiped on the surface to be interrogated for explosives or narcotics particles.

The QS-B220 has automatic and continuous self-calibration. It monitors its environment, senses changes that would affect its accuracy, and re-calibrates accordingly.

Quantum Sniffer TM QS-Hx Portable Explosives Detector

The Company is focusing in developing a next-generation handheld detector that will use dual IMS non-radioactive ionization for the detection and identification of a range of military, commercial and improvised explosives, as well as narcotics. The QS-Hx will have automatic and continuous self-calibration, multi-level password-protected data security and will include a data management interface with data export to a network for recordkeeping, providing a link with the central command centers and logistics systems used by carriers.

Miniature Mass Spectrometer

The Company acquisition of Ion Metrics enabled it to obtain miniaturized quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS) detector technology. The QMS detector is roughly the size of an AA battery and has low manufactur! ing costs! . When used in conjunction with an IMS, the QMS detector senses the molecular weight of the chemical species resulting in an orthogonal detection method in which a more fundamental characteristic of a substance is measured. It is developing interfaces for integrating the QMS detector into its future products.

Hyphenated Detectors

Depending on the application and the number of interfering background chemicals, it may be necessary to incorporate additional orthogonal detection methods. The combination of multiple sensors in series is known as employing hyphenated methods. By measuring different properties of the same species, interferents are separated from target species for a deterministic detection and identification and have minimum rates of false alarms. It is developing hyphenated systems employing conventional ion mobility, differential mobility and quadrupole mass spectrometry. As of June 30, 2012, it has one patent issued in real-time trace detection by IMS and QMS and two hyphenated system patents pending.

The Company competes with Morpho Detection, Inc., NucTech Company Limited and Smiths Detection, Inc.

The market seems to be showing fatigue particularly with positive onshore oil service data points that may nolonger seem incremental. Investors have become especially focused on potential issues and macro concerns. We believe this phaseof enhanced risk perceptions will pass and still recommend owning selective stocks based on attractive valuations and healthyfundamentals. Of the 16 oilfield services companies having reported their quarters to date, the share price changes have at timesbeen difficult to tie to specific results. … Five of the 12 companies who have beaten earnings expectations have seen their share prices drop on the day, including Basic Energy Services (BAS) (-9.0%), Baker Hughes (BHI) (-2.5%), National Oilwell Varco (NOV) (-1.5%), Oceaneering (OII) (-4.2%), and Schlumberger (SLB) (-2.0%). Other stocks beating expectations have traded higher as expected, including Cameron International (CAM) (+4.1%), FMC Technologies (FTI) (+3.1%), Mitcham Industries (MIND) (+3.8%), Nabors Industries (NBR) (+1.2%), Patterson-UTI Energy (PTEN) (+1.8%), RPC (RES) (+8.4%), and Weatherford International (WFT) (+2.3%). Companies which have missed have universally seen their share prices decline, including Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO) (-4.3%), Gulfmark Offshore (GLF) (-0.1%), and Hercules Offshore (HERO) (-6.9%). Halliburton (HAL) was in line and flat on the day.

Why is there such a disconnect between oil and gasoline prices? Despite the fact that oil and gasoline make just about everything go and demand has been steadily rising for decades now, oil production has had difficulty keeping pace. And since 2005 most production growth has come from the increased exploitation of shale formations and hydraulic fracturing.

Since 2005, global production of crude oil has grown by 2.3 million barrels per day (MBPD) and over that same time period U.S. production of shale oil has grown by 3.5 MBPD. Not only is the U.S. essentially responsible for all the production global production growth since 2005, it has also made up from 1.2 MPBD of lost production elsewhere in the world.

While the gasoline price spike since October can be largely attributed to seasonal factors traveling increases in the holiday and summer seasons tight global oil production could result in higher gasoline prices becoming a fact of life. Here in the U.S. nearly 75 percent of the oil we consume goes to transportation and higher gasoline and other distillate prices are the only effect mechanism for rationing it.

That pricing mechanism, coupled with rapid advancements in drilling technologies and know-how, has also made it economical to produce once-untouchable oil reserves, such as those in deepwater or in shale formations and oil sands. It has also driven a huge push to increase global oil production in the coming years and created an opportunity to not only profit from the energy boom but also hedge your portfolio against the damaging impact of energy inflation.

One interesting play on that theme is Cameron International (NYSE: CAM). Cameron provides separation and pressure control equipment, flow control, compressors, valves and other equipment to the global energy industry, as well as the services to install and maintain it. About 20 percent of its $2.4 billion in first quarter revenue was generated through equipment and serv

According to both Chinese and Russian insiders, the two BRIC nations have finally agreed upon terms of a massive deal that would finally get Russian gas inside China via a massive pipeline system. Building on success of a recent partnership between Russian state-owned Rosneft (RNFTF) and Chinese state-owned refiner Sinopec (SNP) for crude oil imports, Russia and China have agreed on the price at which natural will be supplied. That sticking point had derailed the negotiations for more than a decade.
